About David Price

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in the state of Washington. I work with adult individuals of all backgrounds, including men, women, and members of the LGBTQ community.
My work focuses on supporting people who are dealing with challenges related to work, relationships, cultural adjustment, and the stress that often comes with them—such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, substance use, OCD, or perfectionism.
In addition to therapy, I also work as a coach, helping individuals clarify their goals, find direction, and take practical steps toward meaningful change in their personal and professional lives.
At the center of my work is a genuine interest in people and their stories.
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) as my primary approaches, helping clients develop awareness, psychological flexibility, and the ability to move toward what matters to them even when life is difficult. I also integrate Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, harm reduction and motivational interviewing for substance use concerns, and self-compassion practices to help clients develop a kinder and more balanced relationship with themselves.
I’m a U.S. citizen who has lived in Japan since 1995. Through decades of experience working in the Tokyo business community, I saw firsthand how many professionals struggle with stress, burnout, and personal challenges related to demanding work environments, relationships, and cultural adjustment. Over time, I felt a strong desire to help address the shortage of accessible and practical mental health support for people facing these pressures. That path led me to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, become licensed as a counselor, and dedicate myself to therapy, counseling, and coaching.
I have experience working both as a crisis counselor and in ongoing therapy, and I hold certifications in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Psychological First Aid (PFA).
I live in Tokyo with my wife and daughter. We enjoy good food, traveling, and spending time with friends. I also enjoy exercising and practicing many of the mindfulness and awareness techniques that I encourage my clients to use in their own lives.
