Think about this for just a minute:

Client Prospect “Thank you for the presentation David, but we don’t have a stressful atmosphere and I/my team/my company are in good mental health already.”

Me: “Thank you for sharing that. I can’t help but notice, you look to be in excellent physical condition. That’s impressive. So I guess that means you never have to exercise?”

Client Prospect: “Uh, well…”

Okay, this word for word discussion hasn’t happened—I wouldn’t use these exact words, unless maybe I was talking to someone I knew very well (!). But the topic has come up fairly regularly, and I make sure to get these points across:

·      Mental Wellness is not just for the mentally ill or those in crisis. It’s something every one of us benefits from—just like physical fitness isn’t only for people recovering from injury.

·      Mental Wellness goes beyond depression and anxiety. It includes practical, everyday tools for handling distraction, frustration, conflict, low motivation, and the emotional residue we all carry—resentment, worry, self-doubt.

·      Mental Wellness is both a skill and a muscle. Skills are learned; muscles are strengthened through consistent practice. The same way we train our bodies, we can train our attention, resilience, and emotional flexibility.

·      Mental Wellness supports both well-being and performance. When people feel grounded, focused, and emotionally regulated, they think more clearly, collaborate better, and recover from setbacks more quickly. It’s the foundation of sustainable productivity.
