I and my daughter Hanna were lucky enough to be invited by Michael Perry-Clemons to a mentoring program for disadvantaged youth at St. Joseph’s orphanage. Michael started up YouMeWe NPO almost 8 years ago with the main goal of helping children growing up in institutionalized homes to become fully capable and financially independent young adults as they reach the age of 18 and prepare to leave the home - whether it is off to university, technical school, or to a new job. The organization has grown quite a bit, and does a lot of good for young adults preparing for independence. The purpose of the meeting we attended was to introduce several teenage orphans to the mentoring program, and to have them fill out a nomadic territory map. With the map, individuals look through a nomad’s lens to note what one’s goals, desired vocations, values, skills challenges, and desired partners are, amongst other things. It was interesting and encouraging to see the young adults work on their maps and describe them. Hanna and I appreciated the opportunity to be a part of this. Whether you are an individual or an organization, you might want to strongly consider supporting YouMeWe. Here’s the link:  www.youmewenpo.org
