Faster Tasks. An Overloaded Mind.

The report took half the time. The working day still ended late.

Drafting is faster. Summaries arrive in seconds. Yet there is still another output to check, another prompt to refine, and another request waiting.

Time saved can become room for more work.

What the Numbers Reveal

In a March 2026 analysis of its survey of workers in Japan, PERSOL Research and Consulting reported that only 25.4% of generative AI users said using it had saved them time on work.

Its research also highlighted the extra learning and teaching demands placed on frequent users.

What You Can Do When Everything Feels Urgent

Try these two tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the approach behind my Full Engagement Training:

1. Notice the thought before following it

When your mind says, “I have to finish everything now,” try: “I’m noticing the thought that I have to finish everything now.” Feel your feet on the floor. Look up. Check what needs your attention next. This can create space between feeling pressure and acting on it.

2. Choose one action that reflects what matters

Ask: “What matters in how I handle the next ten minutes?” Perhaps it is care, clarity, or reliability.

Choose one small action that reflects it: check a critical detail, clarify a deadline, or ask for help.

Neither tool makes an unreasonable workload reasonable. Both help you pause and choose your response.
